MTD VAT template

MTD VAT template

When working on a VAT return, you’ll need to complete a VAT template with specific details and formulas. This guide will walk you through the process of entering data, linking cells to the VAT summary, and uploading the completed template back into the application. Follow the steps below to ensure that your VAT return is correctly prepared and ready for submission.

      1. Begin by entering the VAT Registration Number (VRN) for the entity. This is a mandatory field for the VAT return.
      2. Next, enter the VAT period in the format YYYY-MM-DD. Ensure the period corresponds to the correct time frame for the return you are filing.
      3. Link the appropriate cells with the formula from the computed VAT summary Excel file. This will automatically populate the relevant figures for the return based on the values entered in previous boxes.
      4. Box 3 and Box 5 are automatically calculated based on the values populated in the previous boxes. These fields will update dynamically once the linked data is entered correctly.
      5. Make sure that the values in Boxes 6, 7, 8, and 9 are entered without decimal points or pence. Only whole numbers should be used in these fields.
      6. Check the Digital Link Column : This column that indicates whether the cells are digitally linked should be checked to ensure that the data has been correctly connected to the appropriate fields.
Info
This column will not function properly if the sheet is moved to a different workbook. Ensure the sheet remains in the original workbook for the digital links to work correctly.
      7. You can move the VAT return sheet into their current Excel workbook for convenience. Once the sheet is correctly placed, you can upload the file, and the 9-box return information will automatically update in the application.
      8. The sheet name should always be ‘VAT Return’ to maintain compatibility with the application. Additionally, make sure the layout follows the exact pattern of the VAT template downloaded from the application for seamless integration when uploading your own VAT template.
