While creating an MTD VAT return, you may receive a "Unauthorised" status. This typically occurs when HMRC’s authorisation (OAuth token) has expired, preventing the application from successfully interacting with HMRC. To resolve this issue, you need to revoke the existing authorisation and reauthorise your entity with HMRC. Follow the steps below.
1. Navigate to the Entity section from the left-hand panel of the application.
2. Locate the entity name for which you need to revoke authorisation. Click on the "Revoke" button next to the entity name. This action will remove the expired authorisation.
3. After revoking, you will see an "Authorise" button. Click on this button to initiate the reauthorisation process. You will be redirected to the HMRC authorisation page.
4. Enter your HMRC login credentials on the HMRC sign-in page. Click on "Grant Authority" and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the authorisation process.
Make sure that you are using the HMRC credentials assigned to the specific entity you want to authorise. If the credentials do not correspond to the correct VAT Registration Number (VRN), interactions with HMRC through the application will not be successful.
5. Once the authorisation is successfully re-established, you can proceed to create and submit your VAT return without encountering the "Unauthorised" status.
