Status Forbidden

Status Forbidden

While creating an MTD VAT return, you may encounter a "Forbidden" status. This typically occurs due to incorrect login credentials or authorisation issues with HMRC. To resolve this, ensure that you are using the correct credentials assigned to the specific entity you are working with. If incorrect credentials are used—such as those assigned to a different entity—the status will remain as "Forbidden". Follow the steps below to revoke the existing authorisation and reauthorise your entity with HMRC to rectify this issue.

      1. Navigate to the Entity section from the left-hand panel of the application.
      2. Locate the entity name for which you need to revoke authorisation. Click on the "Revoke" button next to the entity name. This action will remove the existing authorisation.
      3. After revoking, you will see an "Authorise" button. Click on this button to initiate the reauthorisation process. You will be redirected to the HMRC authorisation page.

      4. Enter your HMRC login credentials on the HMRC sign-in page. Click on "Grant Authority" and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the authorisation process.

AlertMake sure that you are using the HMRC credentials assigned to the specific entity you want to authorise.
      5. If the credentials do not correspond to the correct VAT Registration Number (VRN), interactions with HMRC through the application will not be successful.
      6. Once the authorisation is successfully re-established, you can proceed to create your VAT return without encountering the "Forbidden" status.

If you experience any difficulties during the authorisation process or require further guidance, please contact our support team at mtd@datatracks.co.uk.
